Deapartment of Mathematics

The Mathematics department started of very humble beginning-two staff members and two students offering mathematics as their principal subject.but with support of Charotar Education Society.the department eventually picked up both in quality and quantity of students.The department was headed by Prof V.M.SHAH(1967-1976) who is now int he US,Prof Mr.H.M.VASAVDA(1976-1999),who is now visiting faculty of the Vikram.A.Sarabhai Community Science Center,Ahmedabad and Prof M.H.Patel(1999-Onwards),the reorganization by S.P.U of the book "Analytic of two and three dimension" article by Mrs.Vasavda as text book for F.Y.B.Sc since 1992,is a also credit for department

There is one thing we can proud of our practical courses in mathematics,As back as 1980,the onlyheard of mathematics,If at all where those in numerical analysis,using calculating machines.In those day inspired by Prof A.R.Raosaheb's pioneering work in experimental and activity based mathematics.the department of this college palyed key role introduction of this innovative course and setting up a non traditional mathematic laboratory.This was unique hours in that ours was the only. universityin india having such a course and teachers from other university used to visit the lab to get the idea.Our innovative idea has caught up and we here of even schools setting up Maths Lab.
Bsides imparting Mathematic education, the mathematic deaprtment was activley involved in running maths circle and extra curriculer activity for all students ,since 1980 this activity run tatally by the students under the teacher's guidance,every week another-notehworthy achivement was the hosting of the state level conference of "Gujarat Ganit Mandal" twice in 1980 with about 400 member attending the letter
